The mechanism of cryotherapy is based on the body’s reaction to cold. Under the influence of extremely low temperatures and localized infrared radiation, nerve impulses are blocked and vasospasm occurs—that is, blood vessels first constrict sharply and then dilate. This stimulation improves blood circulation and enhances metabolic processes. As a result, the tissues are saturated with oxygen and all the necessary nutrients and trace elements. The hair follicle is strengthened, becoming healthier and stronger.

Scalp cryotherapy procedure

Hair cryotherapy is performed using a special attachment with a laser tip. The patient’s hair is divided into sections, and each section is treated with cold exposure. Each section is cooled 3–4 times, with each cooling cycle lasting about 5 seconds. As a result, the entire procedure takes no more than 15 minutes. Local treatment of each area of the scalp takes a few seconds. In cases of severe hair loss, 10–15 cryotherapy sessions will be required, conducted 1–2 times a week. Treatment of alopecia areata may require about 20 procedures.

The patient does not experience any pain during the laser procedure. The only sensation they may feel is a slight tingling and warmth in the treatment area.
