Microdermabrasion involves exfoliating the skin with microcrystals and is one of the gentlest methods of mechanical skin peeling. It is a gentle, safe, and highly effective treatment for age-related changes and skin problems. During this cosmetic procedure, the skin is not damaged and no inflammation occurs, meaning there is no risk of infection.
During microdermabrasion, the skin’s surface layers are stimulated, significantly improving blood flow, enhancing microcirculation in the skin’s capillaries, and increasing the supply of nutrients and oxygen, which in turn triggers the intensive renewal of old cells. This cosmetic procedure effectively exfoliates the upper, keratinized layers of cells, tightens pores, actively polishes the skin, and smooths out wrinkles, resulting in a wonderfully smooth and healthy appearance. This rejuvenation technique can improve skin tone and restore its structure; furthermore, it stimulates the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin elasticity. Microdermabrasion effectively combats age-related hyperpigmentation, helps eliminate scars and marks resulting from injuries and surgeries, acne scars, and post-acne spots, and allows for the correction of postpartum scars and stretch marks, as well as the reduction of keloid and burn scars.
How to care for your skin after a diamond microdermabrasion procedure
You won’t need a long recovery period after a diamond peel. There is no redness, swelling, or peeling, and you can quickly return to your normal routine after your appointment. However, you should follow certain aftercare guidelines for 5–7 days:
It is very important to avoid using alcohol-based lotions for a few days.
During the first 24 hours after diamond facial resurfacing, do not use foundation or BB creams, as well as powder or blush. These products can penetrate too deeply into the open pores and cause clogging or skin irritation.
Temporarily stop using scrubs (although there will be no need for them).
Avoid cosmetics containing glycolic acid, lactic acid, or any fruit acids. These substances can cause a burning sensation and irritate the skin.
During the first week after diamond facial resurfacing, use richer creams and lotions than usual, as well as products designed for deep skin hydration. They will help eliminate feelings of dryness and tightness.
Throughout the entire course of diamond skin resurfacing, use sunscreen or sunblock before going outside, regardless of the season. The SPF should be at least 20.
Try to avoid physical overexertion, such as going to the gym. Excessive sweating can lead to inflammation of the skin.
Do not wash your face with water that is too hot.
A few days before the diamond microdermabrasion procedure, stop using products for problem skin that contain Retin-A.
Visiting a tanning bed during and for 30 days after diamond microdermabrasion is contraindicated.
Visits to the bathhouse, sauna, or hot tub are prohibited.
