Facial bio-reinforcement is a procedure with a slightly different mechanism of action but a similar goal, which is to create a sort of framework to improve facial contours and skin condition.

The main difference between facial bio-reinforcement—reviews of which are already appearing quite frequently online—and gold thread reinforcement is that instead of gold, a biological material compatible with the skin is injected into the skin. Furthermore, facial bio-reinforcement does not involve surgical intervention, which cannot be said about gold thread reinforcement.

The “facial bio-reinforcement” procedure is performed by injecting a hyaluronic acid-based biological material. The injections are administered to the areas of the skin that require rejuvenation. Unlike gold threads, the bio-gel does not remain under the skin permanently. Once injected, it performs its function (stimulating the active production of collagen and elastin) and then dissolves.

Unlike gold thread lifting, bio-lifting of the face is a procedure that requires several sessions. To achieve the best results, cosmetologists recommend undergoing this procedure three times.

Bio-reinforcement with threads

This technique is based on the human body’s ability to isolate any foreign material that enters the subcutaneous area using a barrier of connective tissue. Just a couple of weeks after the threads are inserted, a “capsule” begins to form around them, consisting primarily of collagen and elastin fibers. Thus, initially the threads keep the tissues in a lifted state, and then the skin itself maintains its previous tone due to the connective tissue strands formed around the thread mesh.

According to specialists who perform thread bio-reinforcement and their patients, this method provides a more pronounced effect that lasts significantly longer compared to the use of fillers. Thus, this procedure is ideal for those with significant age-related skin changes.

The main advantages of thread bio-reinforcement include:

• visible results that appear immediately, without the need to wait;
• the degree of tissue tension can be adjusted during and even after placement, so there is always the opportunity to refine the lifting effect to the patient’s satisfaction;
• short procedure duration (approximately 45 minutes);
• performed under local anesthesia or light general anesthesia;
• the effect is natural and long-lasting (1 to 5 years).

Disadvantages of this type of facelift:

• for quite some time after the procedure, the patient feels facial tightness and discomfort from the presence of the threads;
• no effect is achieved if there is a significant excess of skin and soft tissue;
• in the future, before performing any facial plastic surgery, the non-absorbable threads will need to be removed;

Skin bio-reinforcement with fillers

Taking into account all the risks associated with thread insertion, an alternative method for performing the procedure was developed—using hyaluronic acid-based fillers. To achieve the desired effect, dense formulations with a high HA content are used, most commonly the following:

• Juvederm Ultra
• Surgiderm

Injections are administered using a special flexible cannula, the length of which significantly exceeds that of a standard needle—this reduces the number of punctures, minimizes pain, and allows the gel to be distributed more evenly throughout the tissues. The injections are administered in such a way as to form a mesh of the active substance (HA) under the skin, similar to the placement of threads.

Once in the tissues, hyaluronic acid gradually dissolves. Its molecules attract and retain large amounts of water, activating fibroblasts that produce collagen and elastin. Stimulating their production leads to firmer skin and increased elasticity.
