These ingrown hairs result from the active secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands. When a hair is present in the follicle, it serves as a passage for sebum (skin oil) to reach the skin\u2019s surface; however, when the hair is removed, the sebum first clogs the entire follicle and only then reaches the surface.
