There are many devices for performing RF lifting, and manufacturers incorporate various versions of RF technology into them: different frequencies and current strengths may be used, programs for automatically adjusting parameters during the procedure may be implemented, and various methods for reducing the pain associated with heating may be employed.

However, the actual effect of RF lifting is achieved solely by raising the temperature in the tissues; this procedure involves inflicting controlled thermal damage on the tissues, which triggers reparative processes within them. Therefore, a procedure will be effective only if it ensures a sufficient increase in temperature at the desired depth for the required duration.

When the skin is heated to less than 42°C, the procedure is completely safe, but the result will be comparable to the effect of applying a heating pad. When exposed to temperatures of 43–44°C, denaturation changes begin to occur in proteins, ensuring the desired result. The safe duration during which such a temperature can be maintained in the tissue without the risk of burns is measured in minutes. Heating to 45–50°C provides a pronounced effect, but the duration of exposure to such temperatures must already be measured in seconds.

For example, heating a tissue area to 50°C should not last longer than 20 seconds during a single procedure. The maximum effect is achieved when the tissue temperature exceeds 50°C. Such temperatures require even shorter exposure times. Exposure with these parameters is implemented in Thermage technology. Heating tissues above 60°C is not used in RF lifting, as it leads to severe thermal damage.

Thus, the effectiveness of the procedure depends both on the physician’s qualifications—who must strike a delicate balance between effectiveness and safety while taking the patient’s individual characteristics into account—and on the equipment used, which must allow for precise dosing of the treatment. Relative contraindications also include acne, rosacea, chronic skin diseases in the acute stage, as well as recent facial contouring, laser biorevitalization, and certain other cosmetic procedures.

How often should RF lifting treatments be performed?

It is recommended to undergo treatments for both the face and body once every 7–10 days (face, neck, décolleté, abdomen, arms, thighs)

How many RF lifting treatments are needed to achieve visible results?

The results will be visible immediately after the treatment. However, the initial results are not final, as the effects of the treatment continue to improve over the course of 2–3 weeks. The number of sessions depends on the condition of the skin and subcutaneous fat layer and averages 4–10 sessions per course.

How long should I wait before undergoing the next RF lifting course?

A repeat (maintenance) course of treatments is recommended after one year, counting from the date of the first session. In most cases, the maintenance course will require 2–3 fewer sessions than the initial course.

How long does a single RF lifting session take?

Depending on the treatment area: 30 to 60 minutes, not including makeup removal time.

How painless is RF lifting?

The RF lifting procedure is completely painless; during the procedure, the client feels a sensation of warmth. After the procedure, there may be slight redness, which usually subsides within 20–30 minutes.

At what age can one start RF lifting treatments?

For preventive purposes, radiofrequency lifting is recommended for patients aged 28–30 and older.

RF Body Lifting

RF lifting (RF stands for radio frequency) is a procedure that heats the skin and subcutaneous fat tissue by passing a high-frequency electrical current through them or by exposing them to a high-frequency electric field in order to achieve the desired cosmetic effect.
