Virtually all of them contain the same active ingredient—the natural soybean enzyme phosphatidylcholine (abbreviated as PPC), which is much better known as lecithin. However, phosphatidylcholine can only dissolve fat cells that have already been destroyed; therefore, for injectable lipolysis, it is used in combination with another substance—deoxycholate—which is what actually destroys the fat cell (adipocyte).

Sodium deoxycholate breaks down the cell membranes of fat cells, allowing the contents of the fat cell to enter the intercellular space, where the fats can be converted into an “oil-in-water” emulsion and eliminated from the body naturally. Phosphatidylcholine then breaks down large fat molecules and facilitates their breakdown.

How is the procedure performed?

Before the procedure begins, the cosmetic doctor conducts a consultation with the patient, reviews their medical history, and takes initial measurements. At this stage, the patient can ask the specialist any questions they may have. The procedure is performed under sterile conditions, which eliminates the risk of infection. The preparation is injected with a very fine disposable needle into the subcutaneous fatty tissue, to a depth of approximately 12 mm, in the areas requiring correction. Redness and slight itching may occur at the injection site. A soothing cream, which the cosmetic doctor applies to the skin after the injections, will restore a sense of comfort. A normal reaction of the body to the lipolytic injection procedure is the appearance of subcutaneous nodules. There is no need to worry: this reaction simply indicates that the process is proceeding correctly. These nodules disappear within a month. Sometimes bruises and small hemorrhages occur at the injection site, which are also normal. Cool compresses are usually applied to them. Pain at the injection sites may persist for up to 5 days. The administration of lipolytic agents is a rather unpleasant procedure performed without anesthesia, but the result is worth it! Lipotherapy usually takes only 15–20 minutes. Depending on the initial condition, 1 to 3 ampoules of the preparation per session may be required to achieve the maximum cumulative result.

Is mesotherapy compatible with other aesthetic cosmetology procedures?

This procedure is compatible with virtually all methods of device-based treatment. In addition, specialists consider a comprehensive approach to skin care to be advisable, as it helps significantly accelerate the resolution of the client’s issues. In particular, it is worth performing a peel in parallel with mesotherapy when injections are administered to the face, neck, and décolletage.

When addressing cellulite and excess weight, the maximum effect can be achieved by combining mesotherapy with device-based cosmetology.

Which areas of the body can be corrected using lipolytic agents?

Many methods of fat removal are highly invasive and result in unpleasant side effects such as severe swelling or bruising, so they cannot be used to treat delicate areas—the face, neck, and hands. The use of lipolytic agents has made it possible for women to look beautiful everywhere without significant unpleasant consequences. Through trial and error, the areas where lipolytic agents provide the greatest effect have been identified:

The chin area.

The eyelids.

The cheeks.

The neck.

Fat deposits on the hands and around the joints.

Shoulders.

Abdomen and buttocks.

Both sides—outer and inner—of the thighs.

Lipolytic agents are a group of drugs that break down subcutaneous fat.
